Carline project Project CARLINE

The project relates to a system and method for recovering, purification and regeneration of platinum group metals (PGM) from different sources, in particular to a system and method for recovering precious metals from scrap car catalytic converters, electronic and medical equipment etc. simultaneously enabling synthesis of micro- and nanoparticles of PGM with same or additional functionalities as PGM in the feedstock. Our invention is primarily intended and particularly applicable to the recovery, regeneration and reactivation of PGM as well as in improvement of platinum or platinum/palladium or platinum/palladium/rhodium or other PGM feedstock source for use in the manufacture of new catalytic and functional surfaces composed of PGM nanoparticles/microparticles or PGM nano- and microlayers. It can also be used for treating spent PGM masses which have become completely or partially inactive in other ways to obtain new functionalities of micro- and nanomaterials. Thorough the methods discovered and optimized in the Project we are able to synthetize different types of PGM nan and microparticles as well as deposed them of inorganic supports.


Summary (main advantages of the CARLINE Project)

A significant reduction of production costs through elimination of:
profit margin of companies dealing in waste (5-10% of the final product value)
profit margin and cost of smelting company (10-15% of the value of the final product value)
profit margin of refineries and chemical companies (5-10% of the final product value)

Technological advantages of the final product (car catalytic converter):
more effective catalytic properties of PGM surfaces with nanoparticles, compared to classic PGM surfaces
reduction of PGM quantity in the final product
much lower costs of production facility and equipment
environmental friendly technology (cost and Energy effective technology)
marketing advantage
